The best place to go if you're looking for genealogical information on the
'net is
Cyndi's
List of Genealogy Sites on the Internet
if it ain't there, it probably ain't nowhere.
This site is indexed through TNG Network and
Family Tree Seeker. Both are great places to go if you're
looking for your ancestors on the web pages of other people. Of course, Google often works very
well, too.
I have found some other places that might be of interest to folks visiting
here. If you're ever thinking of taking a genealogical vacation,
it might be a good idea to check out some of the sites dealing with the home
towns of the ancestors. Or you might like to just take a virtual vacation
right now! Plimouth Plantation has
a very nice site, with lots of pics and info. For information on all of the
towns on Cape Cod, visit
The Cape Cod
Connection, where you can take a virtual tour of each of the Cape
Cod towns.
Visit
New England has a lot of information about Cape Cod. Of course, no
Thacher descendant could pass up a trip to
Thacher Island.
One of the most interesting sites I've come across recently is
The Plymouth
Colony Archive Project at the Univeristy of Virginia. I've only just
begun to delve into the information available there, but it looks like a
real treasure trove. Another site I have just recently found is
Cape Cod (Barnstable
County), Massachusetts Gravestones. What a find!
If you have any ancestors in the New England area, I would suggest you consider
joining the New England Historic Genealogical
Society. Their online databases are invaluable.
Don't forget to check out the Library of
Congress for reference works on genealogy. Do a search on your family
names and you might be surprised with what you come up with.
